Hello to everyone in Nancyland. Sometime ago I asked for a copy cat recipe for the Kenney Burger sauce. There are only a few restaurants left here in the south and I have tried to get their recipe but can't. I know it has ketchup and pickle relish but would love to know the spices used in making the sauce. You just dip the hamburgers in the sauce and throw them on a bun. If any of your readers have such a recipe, I would forever be grateful.
Thanks, Marie in VA

To Linda NM.....thank you for the cobbler recipe. I made it yesterday using fresh Bing cherries and it was delicious. I had a similar recipe to yours, but it called for a 9x13 pan and it was to thin when baked IMHO :). Your 9x9 pan size was perfect, SO much better. Thanks again for a simple, quick and delicious recipe.

To the lady who wanted to know how to cook asparagus: I'm sorry, I meant to write when I saw it, but as usual I forgot! What I do, is clean and trip it, and microwave it for a few minutes. Then I wrap it in bacon and bake in the oven til the bacon is crispy, or however you like bacon. I could eat my weight in asparagus this way! I'm not sure it's terribly healthy but it sure is good!

Nancy, great work you do for all of us. I saw in the past couple of days folks wanting recipes for Liver and Onions. I have read the ones that have been sent in and no one does it like I do, so I am going to share my recipe. I use beef liver or baby beef, which ever you can get. About 2 hours before you plan on cooking it soak the liver in milk. When time to start your meal, fry as many slices of bacon you think you will need. After the bacon is done, remove from frying pan, reserve the bacon grease, wash your frying pan and add bacon grease back into pan. Add as much onions as you think you will need, and cook slowly til brown. Remove from pan ,I put my in a colander to get rid of as much grease as possible. Wipe out pan and add some type of oil. In the mean time remove liver from milk and discard.. Dredge your liver in bisquick which you have added salt and pepper to. Heat frying pan til pretty hot, add liver and cook about 2 minutes on each side or until done. Remove liver from pan and wipe out. Add back the bacon, onions and liver and heat until warm. This is the best liver I have ever eaten, but must confess it is my friends recipe, not mine,

For Leah, I have a good suggestion on cutting food bill and gas bill. Make a list of what you need for the entire week. Food, cleaning supplies etc. Now when you go to the store, buy only what is on the list, and try to stick to store brands. If using brand names, use a coupon if you have it. I have found that 90% of all store brands are just as good as name brands and sometimes cost less than using the coupon. Take advantage of buy one get one free items on your list. Try to get all your shopping done in one trip, if several stops, plan them out so your not criss crossing all over town. That will save a bundle on gas. There are a lot of ways we can cut down if we all just watch what we do. And I have found the main thing is do I Need it or do I just Want it! For example, I am purchasing a GTxpress to cook with because I want to stop using the stove and oven. This will help cut down on the electric bill along with using crock pots, and the air will not be effected as it is when the hot oven is on.

Hope I have been of some help, I am sure there will be tons of more great ideas from all our family

Sylvia, Thanks for looking up the info on GTxpress for me, I really appreciate it. And so sorry your salad greens pooped out! Hope you have better luck next time.

This is for Donna who in the 7/6/08 newsletter wanted suggestions on side dishes to serve at a graduation party. These items have always been a big hit at the graduation receptions that we have had and none need to be heated and all can be made ahead of time. Here are my suggestions: pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, fruit salad, deviled eggs, cheese tray or cheese ball with various types of crackers, vegetable tray with various dips, chips and dip, and if you want desserts other than a cake, consider a cookie tray, or mini cheesecakes. In the last few months there have been many excellent recipes for these items, and within the past week there have been great recipes for Waldorf salad, spaghetti salad and potato salad. Good Luck and have fun at the party.

I have been asked by a number of our family members to increase the size of the print on the newsletter.  Hopefully this size will be easier to read.

Re. Peggy From Arkansas, Warm Delights
Good Morning, Nancy! I read a short note from Peggy, that mentioned Warm Delights, and it sounded so easy and good, but the directions seemed incomplete, and I wondered if you, Peggy, would be willing to share the recipe in its entirety for the rest of us. I went to the HBHW website, and tried to find it with their search engine both by name and date of newsletter, and unfortunately, came up empty! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Again, Nancy, I reiterate.....You are a truly amazing Lady, with two amazing "babies"! Thank you so much for providing all of us with this wonderful forum!
As always, Phyllis in Bethalto

Re: Good morning Nancy and 'landers.
Deviled egg recipe that was different then the normal one everyone usually serves. The filling was a pinkish color and a little on the sweet side.
Lisa from central PA

Lisa, the pinkish color COULD possibly have come from paprika... I'm wondering if the sweetness was from sweet relish? Sometimes I put that in mine for something different.

I bought Fells Naptha soap at Krogers. It was on the top shelf in the laundry products section. I had to ask someone where it was. Homemade laundry soap is 3? a load. grate the soap on a potato grater. It need to be fine so it will dissolve. I put the soap in the machine, then add the clothes. It works great!

I have a T-shirt style shirt that I purchased a couple of years ago and have not worn it much because of the problem I will try to describe. Like it but at the bottom of the shirt it has an 1/16 or 1/8" knit 1 purl 1 which is OK with me but what it does is roll up about ? to 1" when I am wearing it. I have thought of sewing by hand some ribbon around the whole hem to see if that would help. What do the sewer and knitter think in the great group? This just drives me crazy when I am wearing this t-shirt. The rest of the shirt has no problem. HELP HELP Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Taco Salad
2 boxes of tricolor rotini, cooked, drained and cooled.
1 package shredded cheese
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 small can black sliced olives (drained)
1 package of taco seasoning
1 bottle ranch dressing

Mix noodles, cheese, onions, olives, taco seasoning and ranch dressing together. Top with grape tomatoes and add crushed Doritos right before serving as not to get soggy. If made the day before may have to add a little more ranch dressing the next day as to keep moist. I have also mixed half ranch and half French, which was also very good.
Hope this helps, Lisa

Hi Nancy,
I hope you and your furbabies are having a great day.

This is for Christina: Here is how I cook my pot roast (this can be done in a crock pot too).

I first put salt, pepper and flour on each side of the chuck roast, then brown it on both sides. I then remove the roast from the pan. In the same pan I
add cut up onions, celery, carrots and some garlic powder or fresh garlic to the pan that the meat was just browned in, and I brown them up. I then put the roast back into the pan with the vegetables and add peeled and cut up potatoes. Then I take one package of Lipton's onion or any other variety or manufactures brand of dried soup and I sprinkle it over the roast. Then I cover the whole thing with hot water and bake at 350 degrees for about 4 hours.

It almost falls apart, and when I did it in the crock pot it was even better. Just add as many vegetables as you like. We saut?the leftover veggies in olive oil with garlic powder till they are brown and crispy and have that for another meal.

Good morning Nancy and ?Landers!

I am responding to Anne in Indiana who is looking for a recipe for
Mock Pineapple in the 7/6 newsletter.

Mock - Pineapple Zucchini
1 gal. zucchini
1 (46 oz.) pineapple juice
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. real lemon

Peel the zucchini; be sure no green is on it. Seed it and grind, or chop with blender. Squeeze out the juice; add the pineapple juice, sugar, and real lemon. Simmer all together (can add 2 teaspoons pineapple extract) for 20 minutes. Pack hot in cans and process 25 minutes in hot water or 10 minutes at 10 pounds pressure.

I don?t know if this is what you are looking for, but without more info this is all I could come up with. It would use up some of a bumper crop of zucchini! Chris in NM

And for Joanne Ontario in the same newsletter who was asking what to add to all purpose flour to make it self-rising. Some time ago I posted this info on http://whatscookin.proboards4.com/index.cgi?.

re: Self rising Flour
http://whatscookin.proboards4.com/index.cgi?board=chat

In using regular flour for self-rising flour, my book of substitutions says to add 1/4 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt. The Pillsbury flour bag says to add 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt. I posted this on June 27, 2006. There are lots of great and helpful hints along with wonderful T & T recipes from all our great cooks! Check it out!

This is for Betty who was looking for a way to cook liver and onions--

I take the liver, dredge it in flour, brown it on both sides in Crisco oil--add 1 pkg of Lipton onion soup mix, cover the liver with water and finish cooking.

When it is done remove the liver from the broth, add a base made from cornstarch and water to make the gravy--serve gravy over mashed potatoes, rice or hot noodle with the liver.

We enjoy this very much and is our favorite way of fixing it. You can also add more onions if you want--I sometimes do.

Good morning all. I am looking for a TNT recipe for Pulled Pork. I would prefer it for a slow cooker but would appreciate any. Thanks in advance.
Anita in Camarillo

Easy Pulled Pork
This recipe I got from a friend and everyone loves it. It is as simple as can be.

1 (8-10 lb. ) Boston Pork Butt
4 TBSP. Liquid Smoke
4 TBSP. Kosher Salt
1 Bag of Spinach Leaves

Preheat the oven to 350. Take the pork butt and poke holes all over the entire thing. Spread the kosher salt and liquid smoke over the whole pork butt. Spread out a large piece of heavy duty foil and cover the bottom with part of the spinach leaves then place the pork butt on top of the leaves and use the rest of the spinach leaves to cover the entire pork butt. Once covered wrap the foil up tight and place the pork butt in a 9x13 pan . Place in the oven for 6-8 hours. Once you open it up it will fall apart.

Hi, all! Hope everyone had a wonderful July 4 holiday. I went to a wedding reception the other day, where the guests were asked to bring a salad, and I had the most wonderful salad. It was so good I had to go back for seconds! I hope someone out there in Nancyland has this recipe and would be willing to share it with me. This was a layered :taco-like" salad. That's the best way I can describe it. It had black beans, tomatoes, red onions, granted cheese, corn and a little bit of lettuce. There might have been a few other things in it, too. I could also taste taco seasoning in it. I couldn't quite figure out what was in the dressing.

Please! Please! If anyone has this recipe I would love to have it!!! Thanks in advance.

Hi Nancy, Many years ago (I'd rather not count) while I was active in Weight Watchers, one of the tips was to soak liver in milk before cooking. I have used canned milk and also regular milk. This takes the strong taste from the liver. I also cook chicken livers in chicken broth until broth is absorbed. They are good this way with a small dash onion and or garlic salt added to broth. I fix these this way minus onion and garlic then mash liver when cool for our 17 yr. old "granny cat".
Margaret, Tulsa

I'm adding my recipe for Liver.
I soak the liver in milk for about a half hour to any strong taste. Drain well. Fry desired amount of bacon and sliced onions. Remove from pan. Coat liver slices with seasoned flour. Brown in bacon grease and/or olive oil. Place browned liver in greased pan; top with bacon and onions. Make gravy in pan liver was fried in and drizzle some over the liver, bacon and onions. Cover pan with foil. Bake at 350? for about 45 minutes.

For Diane of Buffalo. This request brought back memories. My Mother made a dozen crochet ball covers of diferrent designs for each of my 5 children. Unforunately I don't have the instructions Mom used but if Diane will go to freepatterns.com. She will find the directions for ball covers. Mom used assorted colors of Christmas balls. The kids also had what looked like Christmas wreaves that she crocheted around the ring off of milk bottle lids. My dil still decorates or trees with the things Mom made.
