In answer to Sandy in Iowa..... I have a recipe that was used when I was a child. We ate it over 2 egg cake as a pudding sauce.
Maybe it will be similar to what she wants.

Cinnamon Sauce

Blend
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
3 tsp Cornstarch
Add 2 cups cold water and stir well.

Bring slowly to a boil, reduce heat and simmer while stirring until sauce is clear and thickened.
Remove from heat, add a tablespoon of butter and a teaspoon of vanilla.

Any part of these ingredients can be adjusted to suit ; more or less sugar, more or less cornstarch, cinnamon
Do blend it as directions state.
