I received this variation over 40 years ago:

Crown Jewel Jell-O

Make and chill separately 1 package each: cherry, lime, and orange Jell-O. Chill until firm. Bring 1 c. pineapple juice and 1/4 c. sugar to a boil. Add 1 package lemon Jell-O. Mix well. Add 1/2 c. cold water. Chill until syrupy. Fold into 2 c. Cool Whip. Cut the 3 pans of Jell-O into 1/2" cubes. Fold into Cool Whip. Pour into 13x9 pan. Chill 5-8 hours.
