I've been searching my files for the chocolate pecan pie requested. In the mean time here's another goodie.
It'from Threadgill's in Austin Texas

Threadgills' Pecan Pie

1 refrigerated pie crust
3 Tablespoons melted butter (plus more for brushing crust)
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
2 Tablespoons all purpose flour
4 eggs lightly beaten
2 cups light corn syrup
3 Tablespoons molasses
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups pecan halves
whipped cream, optional

Fit pie crust into 9 inch pie plate, brush with a little melted butter. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl with an electric mixer, blend brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, flour, and eggs on low speed.
Add corn syrup, molasses and vanilla and mix well.
Put 2 cups pecan halves in bottom of pie shell and pour mixture over pecans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes or until filling is set. Remove to wire rack and cool completely. Refrigerate for at least 1 hr. before serving. Serve with whipped cream if desired. 8 servings

I'm looking for a recipe from last year, maybe Spring. It was either from Tonia in Bama or Susie in Indy (I believe). It was for a taco salad recipe, and also had a recipe for a homemade thousand island dressing. I LOVE this recipe, but have misplaced it! Can someone please resend?
Thanks, Rachel in Virginia Beach

Hi Nancy, Ditto and 'Landers,
I have three requests today that I hope this wonderful group can help me with.

First, Nancy, my computer program will not allow your email address to pop up when I click on "email" in the newsletters. I am hoping that this email that I copy/pasted last year is the right one. There may be many other readers who cannot use the link in the newsletter, so could you please just have the typed-out address available in each newsletter?

Second, I would like to buy several spices online. Are there some good quality, reputable suppliers that you can recommend?

Third, I know there was some discussion some time ago about the Nuwave oven. I didn't know what it was at the time (when reviews were given), but now I am considering buying one. For those of you who have used them, could you please give a brief opinion/rating, great to poor? My house gets very warm when I cook, and I certainly can't use my oven during the summer.

Thank you for your help. I love this neighborhood of friends, and Nancy, you and Ditto should get an internet newsletter Peoples Choice Award every year for your hard work, faithfulness and commitment to a quality newsletter. We know it's a labor of love for you and that only makes us love you more. Ditto must be so proud of his human assistant!

Hi Nancy, I did something different with our chicken drummies the other evening. They turned out awesome!

Chris’s Hot Wings # 2

1 pkg. drummies
3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 pinches – 1/8 tsp. – baking soda
4 Tbl. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. or to taste salt
1 c. Light beer (your choice)
6 shakes Louisiana hot sauce

Mix the 7 ingredients well. Let sit for an hour. Dredge drummies in mixture. Deep fry till drummies are done. I used my trusty square Presto elec. skillet with 3” of hot veggie oil to fry in. Drain each batch and place on pan in oven to keep warm. Serve with blue cheese or ranch dressing. Very yummy!

Hi everyone! My triplets and I are hoping someone out there has a copycat recipe for Lofthouse frosted sugar cookies. They are the big soft specially decorated sugar cookies that you can buy in the bakery department of the grocery stores. We love how big and soft they are. Anyone have a recipe that might come close??

This is for Lori in NE, July 27th Newsletter.

I am sending my recipe for Zucchini Jelly. I have made this and it is excellent.

Zucchini Jelly

6 cups Zucchini-peeled, deseeded, & grated.
1 Tbs. water
Cook over medium heat, stir often until clear and thickened.

Add:
1/2 cup lemon juice or Real Lemon
1 cup crushed pineapple w/juice

Add: 1 large package of Jello-o
(Orange, Lemon, Peach, Apricot, or Raspberry)
Put in jars, ( I used 1/2 pt. jars) Cap, Cool & Freeze

I don't know why you couldn't use any flavor Jello-o that you prefer. I made this so long ago that I forgot what flavors I used. I do remember Peach & Raspberry. Was really good.

As long as I am writing...Does anyone know if bacon grease or drippings can be bought in bulk and if so where.

Also I want to thank Mr. Drinkwater for his hint on Duke's Salad Dressing. I got brave and ordered 4 jars of it. I'm soooooo glad I did. It's fantastic and has Miracle Whip all beat to you know where. I did wind up with 8 jars of it tho, 4 I paid for & 4 I didn't. Seems like I ordered at the time the jars were nearing the expiration and the company wanted to be sure I got their freshest. So they sent me 4 that were close to expiring, at no charge.

Want to say Hi to Nancy and hope her and Ditto are doing well.

GOD BLESS ALL, Karen from Wisconsin

Over the weekend, I was in Union Bridge, MD (thought of Lisa, who often contributes to this site). There I tasted the most delicious brownies. Listen to how easy they were to prepare: Bake brownies as directed on any moist brownie mix (my hostess used Betty Crocker). When they come out of the oven, push medium-sized peanut butter cups all along the top and edges of the batter. In that way, each slice of brownie contains a peanut butter cup. Hostess said people told her you can put the p.b. cups in the unbaked batter and they will hold their shape. I think it is easier to just push each peanut butter cups into the softly baked batter. By the way, as I type this, I am salivating in anticipation of tasting the strawberry pretzel salad that I just put together per the directions on this site.

You wonderful repliers -- I just dried a load of clothes with a tube lipstick. It was white clothes -- my best capris, best white jeans and white blouse -- all cotton. I remember one contributor saying she soaked her husbands greasy work clothes in dishwasher soap and everything came out. I am doing that now -- not sure if it will work on that bright lipstick or not. Any other good ideas? PLEASE.

Also, is there someway to get our ice cube trays free of the residue that forms -- makes removing cubes difficult and always leaves some ice in bottom. Do I dare put them thru the dishwasher or what else does anyone suggest.
Thanks a million, merrymaryan in MN

Marlene ...July 26 newsletter wanting dessert for her pastor's dinner.

Death by Chocolate

1 box (19.8 0z) fudge brownie mix
3 packages (4-serving size each) instant chocolate mousse
8 chocolate-covered toffee candy bars (1.4 oz each) (like skor or heath bars)
1 large container container (12 oz)

Bake brownie mix according to directions. let cool. Prepare the chocolate mousse according to directions. Break the candy bars into small pieces in a food processor or by placing in zip lock bag and pounding with hammer.

Break up or cut brownies in bite sized pieces and place some to cover the bottom of trifle dish or a clear glass deep sided large bowl. Cover with half the mousse, than half the candy, than half the whipped topping. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.

I use regular instant chocolate pudding as I can't find chocolate mousse. This makes a beautiful presentation when using a trifle dish.

Dear Nancy & Friends,
I had to laugh when I saw the "Striped Dessert" response in the July 27 newsletter to Marlene's request for dessert recipes for her pastors dinner. My TNT "secret" recipe for banana pudding for a crowd involved a trip to Sam's also! I made the pudding out of sheer necessity to serve at
a pig roast we hosted for 150 plus guests. The "recipe" is always requested by those who don't know the secret at this event.

Pig Roast Banana Pudding

2 regular sized boxes Vanilla Wafers
1 gallon can vanilla pudding (from Sam's)
1 - 2 lbs bananas sliced
1 1/2 large containers whipped topping

Place a layer of Vanilla Wafers on bottom of 1/2 size aluminum steam pan. Top with a layer of sliced bananas. Pour half the pudding on top. Repeat layers. Top with whipped topping. Sprinkle several finely crushed vanilla wafers on top. Keep in refrigerator until ready to serve.

Helpful Hint!!
I seem to always have fruit flies in my kitchen and bathroom. Have found a solution:

Take a 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar - A few drops of dish washing detergent A 1/4 cup beer Mix together is small glass and let stand. It attracts them and they drown.

Broccoli Slaw

Mix
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil
1/3 cup vinegar

Slice a bundle of green onions & mix with slaw
Purchase 2 pkgs. of Romen Noodles[USA] Mr. Noodle [Canada] Chicken flavor

Crunch both bags of noodles toll lumps are gone . Add noodles and packets to liquid mix
Then mix into broccoli slaw. Let stand @ least 2 hours before serving Noodles will soften.

Instead of the sugar I added a sweetener and it worked great. So simple but so good!

I recently went to lunch with some of my friends and we ordered a delicious dessert. It was a deep dish cake crust with a decadent sweet cream cheese topping to die for. One of the girls said that was an old recipe. Does anyone out there think they might have this recipe.

On a lighter note, if anyone has any favorite sugar-free recipes, I would love to have them. I've been South Beaching, and seems that sugar may be the problem for me.
Thanks, Mary in Louisiana

Newsletter, July 27--This is for Lori in NE "looking for a recipe that uses zucchini and I believe grape Jell-O to make a grape zucchini jam. I also had one for a pineapple jam using zucchini but have misplaced them both. "

Apricot Zucchini Jam

3 cups zucchini, peeled and grated
3 cups sugar
1/3 cup crushed pineapple in juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 (2 oz) pkg peach or apricot Jell-O

Cook zucchini and sugar for 15 minutes. Add pineapple and juice. Continue cooking for 6 minutes. Remove from heat and add Jell-O. Stir well and seal into jars. Recipe can be doubled. Original makes 2 pints and a small bowl to eat immediately!

This recipe was included in a cookbook that my school put together over 30 years ago. Each recipe was a T&T from a parent. I have made this many times with different fruit flavors of Jell-O. All my overgrown zucchinis either go into this jam or chocolate cake. Thank goodness, I had a lot last year and froze some shreds. My squash hasn't made this year.

Good Afternoon Nancy and Nancylanders,

Someone was asking about Kidney pudding and I haven't seen any replies. Steak and Kidney pudding is a dish favoured by the English. I have never heard of just kidney pudding. If the reader would like a copy of Steak and Kidney Pudding, let me know and I will find one for you. I haven't tried one as I am allergic to all offal. I think it is steamed in a pudding bowl.

I have made this for just the 2 of us using the George Foreman Grill. I add a tsp of mustard powder to the marinade.

Pork Chops with Griddled Peaches
Serves 4

1 clove garlic
1/2 oz/15g root ginger
1 Tbs/5ml hot chilli powder
2 Tbs/15ml sunflower oil
1 Tbsp/15ml honey
4 pork chops
2 peaches

Peel and crush the garlic. Peel and grate the ginger. Place in a bowl with the chili powder, sunflower oil and honey. Mix together

Coat the pork chops with the marinade, put in the fridge and leave for 20 minutes, or as long as possible.

Halve the peaches and remove the stone. Place the chops on a barbecue or griddle pan over a medium heat and cook for 15 - 20 minutes, turning at regular intervals until cooked through.

Add the peaches 10 minutes before the end of cooking.
Serve with a crispy salad and new potatoes.

1 c. water
1 stick butter
1 c. flour
4 eggs

Filling:
3 sm. boxes instant vanilla pudding
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
4 c. milk
1 (9 oz.) Cool Whip
Chocolate syrup

Boil together 1 cup water and 1 stick butter. Add 1 cup flour, stir together and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir in 4 eggs, one at a time, spread into greased 9"x13" pan. Drizzle with chocolate syrup and swirl to create a design. Refrigerate until chilled. Serves 12 to 16. My friend Lisa makes this with the following differences:
The crust is the same which I bake for 20-25 minutes at 400 I use 2 (3.4 oz.) pkgs. instant vanilla pudding, 3 cups milk, 1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese. Whipped cream and syrup is the same, but I do add the sliced almonds on top. This is so good! Just like a huge cream puff!

Lori in NE, is looking for the recipes for bars using angel food cake mix.

http://www.nancys-kitchen.com/newsletter-index.htm
http://www.nancys-kitchen.com/jun-26-2006.htm

This recipe is my variation on the recipes.

Angel Lemon Bars

1 package Angel Food Cake Mix - the 1 step mix
21 ounces Lemon Pie Filling (1 2/3 c. lemon pie filling or lemon curd)*

Combine cake mix and pie filling. Stir until well mixed. Pour in an ungreased jelly roll pan. Bake 20-25 minutes at 350F degrees. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

I used 2 cans (15 oz. ea.) of Comstock Lemon Pie Filling. It was just right. I did not sprinkle powdered sugar on top as it didn't need it! Also, I baked mine in a bundt pan for about 35 minutes. Very good!!!!!

*Sat., April 28th I made these again, but used only 1 (15 oz.) can lemon pie filling and 1 (6 oz.) container of Yoplait Lemon Burst yogurt. Even better than the first time I made it! I baked it in a 9 x 13” baking pan at 350º F for about 25 minutes. Posted under cakes/bars/cookies on Nancy’s message board.

Hi Nancy and of course Ditto:
Not a recipe but a tip:
While starting to soak skewers (so would burn on cooker) A light bulb went on. I always soak only 2 or 3 since there are only the 2 of us home now. Instead I soaked 12 and wrapped the extras in plastic wrap and stuck in freezer for future use.

Hi Nancy and Ditto!
I am fascinated by Mrs Marshalls recipe for the Apple Pie with Spiced creme fraiche. I am also confused. I though creme fraiche was made with a dairy product like whipping cream. I hope she can clarify this because this looks delicious. Nancy, thanks for bringing us the opportunity to reach out and communicate with people we may never have gotten to know.

Nancy - several weeks ago I requested and was sent a recipe for Kraft Sandwich Spread (clone). I hesitated purchased the ingredients but waited. Many, many years ago I loved Miracle Whip but I think I ate so much of it back then that I just convinced myself I didn't like it any more. Well this recipe tastes EXACTLY like Kraft Sandwich spread. Here it is again in case anyone is interested and for the wonderful person who sent it to me - thank you again.
Arvilla

PS I used regular Miracle Whip

Homemade Kraft Sandwich Spread

Mix together roughly:
16 oz No-fat Miracle Whip
8 oz sweet relish (squeeze most of the liquid out of the relish before mixing with the Miracle Whip. Otherwise the finished product will be too runny)
ketchup (enough to give a pink color)

I am looking for a good strawberry jam recipe, (I used 5 cups sugar and 2 T fresh lemon and cooked for 20 min?) that is going to set up spreadable, I made some and it is a little thin even after it is cold. I want thick.
Can you HELP?

Question for Chris in NM: For the goulash recipe you said you use the tomato sauce instead of the tomato soup, right? Not both tho? I'm going to try this recipe with the sauce be cause my husband don't like anything to be sweet if it's not desert. And I'm thinking tomato soup has a little sugar in it. I do remember it being a little sweet. As a diabetic, I don't need much, if any sugar, but if I'm going to blow my diet it will be something worth it. Like a vanilla ice cream cone once in awhile. LOL.

I bought the E-recipe books a long time ago when it was $9.97 I think. I've never spent much time on there because when I was cooking good things, I pretty much stuck to my favorites. But I did find a book I'm going to read online so I'm glad I have it.
Have a blessed day!
