Dry Mix Recipes
Thought everyone might like these recipes -
Dry Ranch Dressing, Dry Onion Soup, and Dry Taco Seasoning

Make your own Ranch, Dry Onion Soup Mix and Taco Seasoning and store in small mason jars....This is soooo much HEALTHIER than those you buy at the store!! They contain a TON of stuff that is not good for you!!

Taco Seasoning Recipe

Ingredients
1/2 cup chili powder...
1/4 cup onion powder
1/8 cup ground cumin
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon sea salt

Directions
Put ingredients into a jar and shake.


Dry Onion Soup Mix Recipe

Ingredients
2/3 cup dried, minced onion
3 teaspoons parsley flakes
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

Directions
Mix all ingredients in a jar
then give the jar a good shake.
I’d recommend shaking the jar to mix the ingredients well before each use.
Use 4 tablespoons in a recipe in place of 1 packet of onion soup mix.
Store this in a dry, cool place.


Dry Ranch Dressing Recipe

Ingredients
5 tablespoons dried minced onions
7 teaspoons parsley flakes
4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Mix together and store in an air tight container.

For dressing:
Mix 2 tablespoons dry mix
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup buttermilk or sour cream.

For dip: Mix 2 tablespoons dry mix
with 2 cups sour cream.

Directions
Mix up a few hours before serving, so the flavors all blend.

I would like to smoke some meats but don't know where start.  Does anyone know how to use a smoker and how to smoke meats in it.

Here is another recipe that Diane WI might want to try. You could easily omit the food coloring, if you prefer not to use it. I believe this is from a 2008 newsletter. Congratulations on having such great success with your garden this year.

Cinnamon Pickles Recipe

Ingredients & Directions
Day 1
Peel and core and remove seeds. Cut lengthwise one gallon cucumbers. Mix 2C Lime and 8 1/2 gallons water. Pour over cucumbers in an enamel, glass, or stainless
steel container. Let set for 24 hours.

Day 2
Drain and rinse well. Mix 1c vinegar, 1 tBS alum, 1 bottle of red food coloring and enough water to cover and simmer for 2 hours. Drain and out in large
container. Mix 2 c vinegar, 2 c water, 10 c sugar, 8 broken cinnamon sticks, and 6 oz package of red hots. bring to a boil. Pour over cucumbers and let
set over night.

Day 3
Pack cucumbers in clean jars and reheat syrup to a boil. Pour over pickles and seal.

Crock Pot Meat Loaf Recipe

Ingredients
1-1/2 ground beef
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1/2 c. tomato juice
3 tbsp. chopped onion
3 tbsp. chopped bell pepper
3 tbsp. chopped celery
2 tsp. seasoned salt
1/4 tsp. thyme
Catsup or chilli sauce

Directions
Using a fork, mix all ingredients, except for catsup. Shape into a loaf and put into greased crockpot. Top with catsup and pepper rings, if desired. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour, then on low for 6-8 hours. Quartered potatoes coated with butter may also be cooked with this recipe. A dash of paprika will give the potatoes a nice browned look.

Crock Pot Pork Chops Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup peach preserves
3 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 lbs. butterfly cut pork chops, fat removed and cut into 1-inch cubes
1 medium onion, thinly sliced to put on top of mixture as it cooks

Directions
Mix together first 7 ingredients. Put pork pieces into crockpot; pour mixture over top. Top with onion slices. Cook 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high.

Crock Pot Salsa Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
4 (3-oz.) boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 cans whole kernel corn
1 jar (12 oz.) salsa (chunky is best) (mild)
1 red or green bell pepper sliced
1 small onion sliced and in rings pulled apart
salt to taste
pepper to taste

Directions
Drain corn, set juice aside. Spray crockpot with cooking spray. Place chicken breasts on the bottom of crockpot. Pour salsa on top of chicken then top with onion and pepper slices. Pour cans of corn on top and add just a little of the drained corn juice. (You can add more corn juice if it starts looking dry during cooking. I add only about 1/2 cup overall.) Cook for 5 hours on low.

Before serving on noodles, thicken gravy by adding 2 pkgs. of dry pork gravy sprinkled on slowly and stirred to prevent lumps.

Crock Pot Sausage and Kraut Recipe

Ingredients
2 pkg. deli kraut (washed and drained)
2 carrots, diced
1 small onion, diced
2 lb. smoked sausage

Directions
Brown sausage, carrots and onion. Combine all ingredients in crockpot. Cover and cook on medium heat for 5-6 hours.

Crock Pot Tortilla Soup Recipe

Ingredients
1 or 1-1/2 lb. chicken
1 garlic clove, minced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cans (14 oz. each) chicken broth
1 can (14 oz.) chopped, stewed Ro-Tel tomatoes
1 can (14 oz.) black beans
1/4-1/2 c. salsa
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 c. chopped carrots
1/2 c. chopped celery
Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
Green onions, chopped
Avocado, sliced
Tortilla strips
Sour cream

Directions
Cook, debone and shred chicken. Sauté garlic and chopped onion in skillet, add to crockpot. Add all ingredients (except toppings) to crockpot, and cook on low for 4 hours, or longer if desired.

Sprinkle individual servings with any combination of topping ingredients - Monterey Jack cheese, green onions, avocado, tortilla strips, or sour cream.
Makes 6 servings.

Crock Pot Enchilada Casserole Recipe

Ingredients
2 small onions, chopped
2 cloves of garlic
6 boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked and chopped
1 pkg. taco seasoning mix
2 tsp. cumin
1 (28 oz.) can green enchilada sauce (I prefer the Hatch brand)
12 corn tortillas
12 oz. Cheddar cheese

Directions
In a skillet, sauté 1/2 onion in about a tablespoon of oil. Cook for 2 minutes and add garlic. Cook 2 minutes more and add chicken, taco mix, and cumin. Mix well, set aside. In a blender, add the rest of the onion and the can of enchilada sauce. Blend until fully mix. In Crock Pot-insert, pour about 1/2 cup sauce on the bottom of the pan and begin building casserole. Start with sauce, then put on tortilla, then a layer of chicken mixture, then a layer cheese. Repeat this pattern until finished. Pour the rest of the sauce evenly over the top and sprinkle a little cheese on the top just before serving.

Crock Pot Southwestern Soup Recipe

Ingredients
1 pkg. Taco seasoning
1 (14 ounce) can kidney beans
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 small can diced mild green chilies
1 large onion, chopped
1 lb. ground beef
1 (14 ounce) can Ranch Style beans
1 large can tomato sauce
1 (14 ounce) can corn, drained
2 c. water

Directions
Combine all ingredients into crock pot and cook four to six hours. No need to brown beef. Top with shredded cheese and fritos.

Foil Wrapped Roast Recipe

4 lb. beef pot roast
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 (10-1/2 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup

Place meat on 30 x 18-inch piece of heavy-duty foil in 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Place meat on foil. Sprinkle dry soup over top of meat. Spread mushroom soup over dry topping. Fold foil over meat, sealing securely. Bake at 300° for 4 hours.
Serves 8 to 10.

Bologna Packet Meal Recipe

Ingredients
aluminum foil shaped into a 12x10 inch "pan" OR a foil baking pan
1 lb. pkg. ring bologna, cut into 1 inch thick slices
3 medium potatoes, sliced
2 cups green beans
1/2 cup red bell pepper strips
1/4 cup margarine, melted

Directions
Spray foil pan with nonstick cooking spray. Arrange bologna, potatoes, beans and pepper in sprayed pan. Pour melted margarine over mixture; toss to coat. Sprinkle with garlic powder and pepper. Cook 20-25 minutes on covered grill or until vegetables are tender, stirring frequently.

Grilled Corn with Husks Recipe

Ingredients
12 ears fresh corn in husks
1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Directions
Pull back husks from corn. (Do not remove.) Remove silks. Rub corn with butter; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pull husks over corn and tie the top with heavy string. Cook, covered with grill lid, over medium-hot coals (350° to 400°) for 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally. Remove strings and serve.

Grilled Teriyaki Pork Chops Recipe

Ingredients
2 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. minced green onion
1 tsp. lemon juice
4 (1-inch) thick boneless pork chops

Directions
Whisk together all ingredients, except chops. Marinate chops in mixture in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Remove. Broil or grill chops for 12 to 15 minutes. Brush with marinade; turn once.
Makes 4 Servings

Oma's Eggplant and Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients
2 eggplant, diced
1 onion, chopped
1 c. raw peeled, deveined shrimp, chopped
1 to 2 ribs celery, chopped
1/2 c. butter

Directions
Boil eggplant until soft. Saute onion, shrimp and celery in butter. Combine with eggplant. Pour into casserole and sprinkle with bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes at 350°.
