Dressing Up Brown and Serve Rolls Recipe

Brown and serve rolls are the ones in the bread aisle that look like raw bread dough wrapped in plastic wrap. Sprinkle these remade rolls with a few simple ingredients and no one will ever know that it was store bought bread. Here are a few good ideas:

Blue cheese brown and serve rolls:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, 1/2 stick
1 T. olive oil
1/2 cup finely crumbled mild blue cheese such as Gorgonzola or Maytag (In my opinion, gorgonzola is not mild, but that’s just me)
1/4 t. Worcestershire sauce
4 shakes of Tabasco sauce
One 11 oz. pkg. brown and serve rolls

In small bowl, mix the butter, oil, blue cheese, Worcestershire and Tabasco, stirring to blend. Drizzle over rolls and bake according to package directions.

Cheesy Chipotle Brown and Serve Rolls:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, 1/2 stick
1 T. olive oil
1/8 t. chipotle chile powder
1/8 t. dried oregano, crumbled
One 11 oz. pkg. brown and serve rolls
1/2 cup finely shredded Monterey Jack, pepper jack, cheddar or queso fresco cheese

In small bowl, mix butter, oil, chipotle powder and oregano. Brush over rolls, then sprinkle with cheese. Bake as pkg. directs

Garlic Parmesan Brown and serve Rolls:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, 1/2 stick)
1 T. olive oil
1 t. garlic powder
1 t. sweet paprika
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

In small bowl, mix butter, oil, garlic powder and paprika. Brush over rolls, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake as directed on pkg.

Here is a Sloppy Joe recipe that is very similar to Judy’s but can be done in a crockpot.

Sloppy Joes Recipe

1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 small onion, minced
2 stalks celery, minced
1 (12 oz.) bottle chili sauce
2 T. brown sugar
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 t. salt
2 T. sweet pickle relish
1/8 t. pepper

In large skillet, cook beef w/onion & celery until meat loses red color. Pour off excess fat. In slow-cooking pot, combine meat, onion, and celery w/remaining ingredients. Cover & cook on low for 3-4 hours. Spoon over toasted hamburger buns or French rolls. 4-6 servings. Recipe may be doubled & mixture kept warm in slow-cooking pot for after-the-game parties.

Yesterday I went to a luncheon where hot asparagus soup was served. It was thick, tasty and creamy and very good. Does anyone have a recipe similar to this that they would share.

Zucchini Soup Recipe

Cut vegetables up small and boil until soft with the bouillon cubes. Drain vegetables and save the liquid. Put vegetables in blender (with enough liquid). Return vegetables to liquid. Stir and add as much milk as you'd like. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt. Heat and serve.

If you make more than you'll use, hold out the rest and add milk when you use it later. Good served cold too.
