New York Pushcart Onion Sauce Recipe
this is from the 40's-50's

2 onions sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 Tbsp vegetable or olive oil
1/4 cup ketchup or tomato sauce
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
dash of Tabasco sauce
dash of salt
1 cup water

In a skillet, saute onions in the oil over medium heat until golden and limp,about 7 minutes. Add in ketchup/tomato sauce. Stir till smooth. Add seasonings. Pour into water, stir. Bring to a boil and simmer uncovered until onions are tender. Spoon 2 Tbsp or more over grilled or boiled hotdog in bun.

Makes 1-1/2 cups enough for 6-8 hotdogs
