Buttermilk Frosting/Candy

In a large Dutch oven, combine
3 c sugar,
1 c buttermilk.
1 c butter or good quality margarine,
2 tbsp corn syrup,
1 tsp soda.

Heat, stirring constantly until boiling. Cook to 236*. Beat & cool until spreading ;consistency.

 Fold in 1 c chopped pecans. Spread over cake or into a pan for candy. This was originally the frosting for a jam cake, but my family likes it as candy better.

* Powdered buttermilk does not have to be mixed separately. I just add the powder with my flour and the water with the my other liquids and let it mix in the batter.
