Grandma's Old Fashioned Cabbage

1 large (3 lb.) head cabbage
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (8 oz.) can whole tomatoes
1 c. herb seasoned stuffing mix
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water
grated Parmesan cheese

Cut slice from top of cabbage, cut out inside cabbage leaving 3/4 in shell. Reserve inside of cabbage for cole slaw. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cook and stir ground beef in 10-inch skillet over medium heat until light brown, drain. Stir in 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce, the tomatoes (with liquid), stuffing mix, onion, garlic and salt; break up tomatoes with fork. Fill cabbage shell with beef mixture, place in Dutch oven around cabbage. Cover and bake until cabbage is tender, about 45 minutes. Remove cabbage from Dutch oven; cut into 6 wedges. Spoon hot tomato sauce onto wedges, sprinkle with cheese. If there is any beef mixture left after stuffing cabbage, add it to sauce in Dutch oven.
