Soft Sugar Cookies

3 cups sugar
2 cups cooking oil
4 eggs
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups buttermilk - no substitutions
3 teaspoons vanilla
8 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
6 teaspoons baking powder

Mix sugar and oil and beat well. Add eggs and mix well. Sift dry ingredients except baking soda. Add the soda to the buttermilk. Add flour mixture with buttermilk mixture all together. Add vanilla. Bake at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned.
