Chocolate Intrigue
Sift together:
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt.
Cream 1 cup butter, gradually add 2 cups sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.
Blend in 3 unbeaten eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each.
Combine:
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Add alternately with dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each
addition ( low speed on electric mixer). Pour 2/3 of batter into a 10 inch
tube pan, greased on bottom.
Add to remaining batter:
3/4 c chocolate Hershey syrup
1/4 tsp. soda
Pour chocolate batter over white batter. Do not mix. Bake in moderate oven at
350 degrees for 60-65 minutes. Cool completely before removing from pan.
When I make the cake, I take a knife and swirl it in the cake mix. It gives it a
marble effect. I don't know how it would turn out if I didn't do that. I'll have
to try it and see.
